Look closely at the section of your Web page. The subject, author, copyright, and publisher tags are NOT meant to be used as places to stuff keywords. This is called spam.

Never put keywords into these tags in an attempt to influence ranking. You are better to get rid of the tags altogether.

They’re not needed on your pages, (even if you’re using them correctly.)

There’s no reason to ever use the META revisit tag. A search engine
will not revisit your page in 7 days just because you tell it to do so in a Meta tag.

It is far smarter to work on “content freshness” and consistently add new content to your Web site on a regular basis. The keyword here is “consistently.” By adding new articles or other content on a consistant basis, you will trigger an increase in the robot visits.

For effective search engine marketing, you need more than just top rankings.

Remember to include strong calls to action to compel a response from the reader.

But also remember that people often get accustomed to the same type of terminology if it is repeated over and over again. Practice coming up with new ways to describe a “call to action” so that it still delivers value, but does not get ignored. The same is true when describing a special bonus or a guarantee.

Work to make your “calls to action” memorable. Make them stand out on the page.

Make sure and use your important keywords in your link text because when a press release is picked up by multiple publishers or media outlets, remember that it is news.

Many people forget that news is 100% legitimate white hat, because the search engines understand “news” is meant to be syndicated. The additional link reputation can be beneficial if your press release is carried in huge publications like Forbes or perhaps AOL Money & Finance.

One of my SEO friend recently asked why I place such value on the importance of gaining a solid “SEO comfort level” with skills. It was a good question so I asked them, “what is the alternative to the essence of knowing exactly what needs to be done?”

They replied that their philosophy was “more or less throwing all manner of things at the wall and see what sticks.” I’ve heard this philosophy before. Everyone has a right to their own methods but my thought is that this only seems like so much wasted energy - for so few results.

Conduct some searches for your keyword phrase. Study your title and description and compare it to your competitors. Get the opinion of a few other people as well.

How does your listing stack up to your competitors in terms of titles/descriptions that grab the searcher’s attention and pull them into your site. Remember that your title/description need to be the equivalent of a sales campaign for your site/pages.

Tips # 1 :

Go through your site and look for links where the link text is useless to your site. For example, are you using the phrase “More Info”? Or, “Click here”?

Optimizing for secondary supporting keywords can be a golden mine because when everybody else is optimizing for the most popular keywords, there will be far less competition (and probably more hits) for pages that are focused on the minor words or synonyms.

For example, “real estate in Tamilnadu” might have much less action than “real estate” by itself, but if you are operating in Mississippi, you could get less volume in traffic but considerably more refined traffic. Also do not under estimate the value of working with acronyms. For example “real estate TN” or for example “Company in NY” short for New York.

Which pages are being viewed by themselves, where visitors aren’t even clicking to go to another page? Again, look at these pages carefully to see what you can provide on the page to keep up the interest of your visitors. You’re losing them, and you need to figure out why.

If 70-80% of your visitors only looked at one page, perhaps you need to look at your navigation system. Are visitors confused and unable to find what they’re looking for?

The newer, inexperienced SEO tends to always try and “rush” their optimization efforts. I often see where new students want to continually “tweak their code” far too often, not allowing adequate time for robots to visit.

Best practice is to let the search engine robots run on their own schedule. If you want to make important changes, allow plenty of time in between to ensure the robots are finding the pages. But most importantly, you want to learn more from each change you make. You want to understand more, with each exercise.

Not every bit of optimization work will be measured, BUT when it comes to “trouble shooting,” it’s absolutely important that you measure your changes and post them to your log for review, at a later date. This way, if you error in any way, it can usually be undone fairly easily.

Have you got a few pages that still need some help? I’m talking about pages you’ve been working on, but they’ve just been giving you a few challenges in the rankings for some reason or other and you’re not happy with them.

Why not look back and review the last changes you made on them and make one more single variation in just one of the influential relevancy factors? Don’t make too many changes – try to just make one important change only. Be sure to record it in your log as well as record the rankings with the date of your entry.
