Description in The Search Engine Results Page(SERP) – SEO Tips # 354

Have you ever noticed where your Description in the search results page are being pulled from?

Did you know that there are 3 places Google may be pulling a description from.

1. Most often it is the Description Meta tag.

2. Sometimes Google will grab a random snippet from the page copy itself.

3. And occasionally, it may choose to pull from the ODP or Dmoz directory, in which case you may not be pleased
especially if it is out dated or reads poorly.

Here is the Metatag that you can add to a page, to stop Google from displaying the ODP description (if that is
something you want to prevent.)

META NAME=”ROBOTS” CONTENT=”NOODP”
